The hot spring pools of Jiuxian Tang were first built in the early Northern Song Dynasty. After being damaged multiple times, the current pools still retain their original openings. The bathhouse structures have been destroyed and rebuilt many times, with the existing buildings dating back to the reconstruction during the Daoguang era of the Qing Dynasty. The Northern Song poet Huang Tingjian once visited to soak in the springs and composed a poem: “At Jiuxian’s harmonizing springs, two water buffaloes bathe here; the host shows no partial heart, each finds warmth or cool as they desire…”
