The Ancient City of Daming Prefecture

The Ancient City of Daming Prefecture is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

From the Sixteen Kingdoms period to the Ming Dynasty, located in the Dashijie Township area about 6 kilometers northeast of Daming County. The ancient city site covers an area of 36 square kilometers. The Ancient City of Daming Prefecture was initially built in the first year of Jianxi of the Former Yan (360 AD), and in the third year of Jianwen of the Ming Dynasty (1401 AD), it was submerged due to simultaneous flooding of the Zhang and Wei Rivers. The ancient city site currently has two key protected areas: the ruins of the prefectural city wall and the Dashijie ruins. The Ancient City of Daming Prefecture was completely destroyed by a single flood event, leaving it remarkably well-preserved. Its architectural foundations, palace layouts, and neighborhood residences are better preserved than those of other abandoned cities. After investigation, cultural relics experts have concluded that the Ancient City of Daming Prefecture is the most archaeologically valuable capital city of the Northern Song Dynasty in China. Excavation here could fill a major gap in the archaeological study of Northern Song capitals. On May 25, 2006, it was designated as part of the sixth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units by the State Council.

Dashijie Town: A township under the jurisdiction of Daming County. Dashijie Commune was established in 1961 and reorganized as Dashijie Township in 1984. It is located northeast of the county seat, covering an area of 6.5 square kilometers with a population of 34,000. The town is accessible by road.
