Giant Meteorite

Originally located in Dongjia Garden at the southern end of Daming Normal School near Beiguan in the county town, the meteorite has a volume of approximately 13 cubic meters and weighs 5.73 tons. It is irregular in shape, with a hole on one side, resembling a Taihu rock. The "Zizhi Tongjian" records that a meteorite fell in Daming, but it is not confirmed whether this is the same stone. In 1987, it was moved to the courtyard of the county guesthouse, in 1995 it was displayed for public viewing at Tianchi Park, and in 2002 it was relocated to the Shike Museum courtyard in Daming County where a pavilion was built to house and protect it. In 1983, it was designated as a key county-level cultural relic protection unit by the Daming County People's Government.
