Despair Slope

--Despair Slope is a section of mountain road within the Wugong Mountain Scenic Area in Luxi County, Pingxiang City, named for its steep gradient and long incline.

--It is an essential stretch when trekking from Golden Summit to Yangshimo or Mingyue Mountain, featuring rugged and undulating terrain.

--At its steepest point, the slope approaches 70 degrees, and hikers must tread carefully on unimproved dirt roads, crawling slowly using both hands and feet.

--The long and steep path can be disheartening, but the surrounding scenery is remarkably unique and picturesque. Due to the high altitude, clouds and mist often shroud the mountains, creating a fairy-tale-like atmosphere.

Transportation

Located within the Wugong Mountain Scenic Area, there are multiple entrances to the mountain, but the main gate is accessible only from Ji’an Anfu and Pingxiang Matian.

1. Pingxiang to Wugong Mountain

① The bus from Pingxiang South Station to Wugong Mountain passes through: Gaokeng, Luxi Shawan, Sankouyan Reservoir (Lu Deming Martyrs’ Cemetery), Xinquan, Matian, and finally arrives at the Golden Summit Cable Car Ticket Office of Wugong Mountain.

Departure times: Daily from 6:00 to 16:50, every 20 minutes, with additional services during holidays based on passenger volume. (Ticket price is 18 RMB per person, approximately 1-hour drive.)

② Visitors arriving by train to Wugong Mountain can disembark at Pingxiang Railway Station and then take the express bus from the long-distance bus station at the station entrance directly to Wugong Mountain via Xihai Hot Springs and Fayunjie. (Full fare is 22 RMB. Operating hours are from 5:40 to 17:00, with services every 20 minutes or so.)

2. Ji’an Anfu to Wugong Mountain (distance of 45 km)

① After arriving by train in Ji’an, there is a bus at 6:30 that goes directly to Wenjia, arriving at Wugong Mountain Hot Spring Resort around 10:00, and returning to Ji’an Railway Station at 13:00. One service per day, ticket price: 25 RMB.

② Buses from Ji’an to Anfu run every half hour, ticket price: 15 RMB; from Anfu to Hukeng Town (passing through Taishan Township), also every half hour, ticket price: 10 RMB.
