Anfu County Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall

Anfu has long been known as the “Blessed Land of Central Jiangxi” and is the core area of the Lu Ling culture, boasting a rich cultural heritage and unique charm. The distinctive Wu and Chu cultural influences have nurtured a profound collection of intangible cultural heritage. For thousands of years, the industrious and intelligent people of Anfu have created a large number of cultural legacies with distinct ethnic and regional characteristics. Folk literature, music, dance, fine arts, handicrafts, customs, knowledge, and other forms of folk culture are distributed across the villages of Anfu.

With strong support from governments at all levels, in 2007, Anfu County established an Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center, commencing efforts to collect, organize, archive, and build databases for the county’s intangible cultural heritage. Through the collective efforts of all parties, Anfu has achieved commendable progress in heritage protection, publishing its first and second batches of county-level intangible cultural heritage lists in 2007 and 2011 respectively. A total of 54 intangible cultural heritage items across 9 categories have now been identified. Among them, there are 6 provincial-level projects and 6 municipal-level or higher intangible cultural heritage projects. Notably, the “Anfu Mid-Autumn Tower Burning” has been successfully inscribed on the national intangible cultural heritage list.

This exhibition hall showcases the dynamic characteristics of intangible cultural heritage through photographs, text, panels, videos, physical objects, scene reconstructions, and live interactions with inheritors. It displays various aspects of Anfu’s folk culture, including local customs, traditional handicrafts, folklore, folk fine arts, folk dances, folk musical instruments, folk operas, folk beliefs, and profiles of heritage bearers. The hall prominently features provincial-level intangible cultural heritage projects such as the “Anfu Mid-Autumn Tower Burning,” “Anfu Sisters-in-Law Tea Ceremony,” “Anfu Ham Production Techniques,” “Anfu Harvest Festival,” “Aoyun Torch Festival,” and the “Legends of Mount Wugong.” Additionally, the museum includes an interactive performance area where visitors can engage with various props to foster a shared sense of protecting our spiritual homeland.
