Tomb of Liu Yan

The Tomb of Liu Yan is a cultural heritage protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

The Tomb of Liu Yan is located in Jishui County. In March 2018, it was announced as part of the sixth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage protection units in Jiangxi Province.

Liu Yan (1394–1457), styled Xuanhua and also known as Shiyu, was a native of Jishui. He was born in the 27th year of the Hongwu reign during the Ming Dynasty (1394) and passed away in the first year of the Tianshun reign of Emperor Yingzong (1457) at the age of 64. In the 7th year of the Zhengtong reign (1442), he ranked first in the imperial examinations and was appointed as an editor. During the Jingtai era, he presided over the civil service examinations in Shuntian and was dismissed for upholding fairness. Later, he successively held positions such as Vice Minister of the Court of Imperial Sacrifices and Grand Secretary of Fengfang, overseeing academic affairs. He died in the first year of the Tianshun reign of Emperor Yingzong at the age of 64 and was posthumously honored with the title "Wenjie" (Cultured and Upright). Liu Yan was talented in literature and authored the 30-volume Collected Works of Liu Wenjie, which is listed in the Complete Library of the Four Treasuries.
