Former Site of the Guangdong-Guangxi-Hunan Border Column in Fengbei

The former site of the Guangdong-Guangxi-Hunan Border Column in Fengbei is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

The former site of the Guangdong-Guangxi-Hunan Border Column is located at Guye House, Gudi, Fengbei Village, Kuimeishan Town, Dingnan County.

In November 1945, the 3rd Detachment of the Dongjiang Column moved to the Jiulian Mountain area to carry out guerrilla warfare. After establishing contact with the local Party organization, the CCP Jiulian Mountain Area Working Committee was formed. To facilitate operations, the troops externally renamed themselves the Jiulian Mountain People’s Self-Defense Corps. Chen Zeping and Zhang Xinge each led a squadron to successively operate in areas such as Gudi, Gukeng, Fengbei, Mianbeigeng, Banbu, Zuoba, and Xiwai in Sangeng, Dingnan. In June 1946, the main force of the Dongjiang Column withdrew north to Yantai, Shandong, leaving behind 57 officers and soldiers including Wu Yi, Wang Biao, Lin Jingqiu, and Chen Shitang, who secretly moved to Gudi, Sangeng, Dingnan. There, they established the CCP Jiulian Mountain Area Provisional Working Committee, with Wu Yi as secretary, and also formed the Guangdong-Guangxi Border People’s Volunteer Corps, which split into three small squads for dispersed concealment. The 3rd Squad, led by Wu Yi, operated in areas such as Gudi, Gukeng, Fengbei, Mianbeigeng, and Wuhuazhang in Sangeng. In the spring of 1947, the CCP Guangdong Provincial Committee decided to establish the CCP Jiulian Mountain Area Working Committee, with Yan Shangmin as secretary. In December 1948, the CCP Hong Kong Bureau decided to establish the CCP Guangdong-Guangxi-Hunan Border Area Committee, upgrading the CCP Jiulian Mountain Area Working Committee to the CCP Jiulian Regional Committee. In January 1949, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Guangdong-Guangxi-Hunan Border Column (abbreviated as the “Border Column”) was officially established, formed through the unified reorganization of revolutionary armed forces operating along the Guangdong-Guangxi-Hunan border. The Guangdong-Guangxi Border People’s Volunteer Corps was reorganized into the Border Column’s Dongjiang 2nd Detachment, with Zheng Qun as commander, Zhong Junxian as political commissar, and Huang Zhongqiang as head of the political department. The detachment leadership stayed at Guye House. After its establishment, the Dongjiang 2nd Detachment continued to focus its operations mainly in Sangeng, remaining there until August 1949 when Dingnan was liberated, after which it withdrew entirely into Guangdong.

To promote the glorious revolutionary traditions of the martyrs and to inherit and carry forward the extraordinary revolutionary spirit of the “Guangdong-Guangxi-Hunan Border Column,” the Dingnan County People’s Government and the Kuimeishan Town People’s Government invested over 2 million yuan to renovate and rebuild the houses and roads at the former site of the Dongjiang 2nd Detachment’s garrison in Gudi. Today, this site has become a patriotic education base, serving as an educational site for party members, leading cadres, and youth in Dingnan County to learn about revolutionary traditions. Moreover, as it is closely integrated with Buyi Valley, it is also an excellent destination for leisure, vacation, and tourism.

The former site of the Guangdong-Guangxi-Hunan Border Column is a civil structure made of earth and wood, covering an area of approximately 1,200 square meters. Parts of it have collapsed and have undergone simple repairs.

Protected Area: 28.6 meters outward from the main gate (east side), 0.5 meters outward from the back wall (west side), 0.5 meters inward from the left wall (north side), and 0.5 meters inward from the right wall (south side) of the “Former Site of the Guangdong-Guangxi-Hunan Border Column in Fengbei”; Area: 2,223.5 square meters.

Construction Control Zone: The extension distances of the construction control zone for the “Former Site of the Guangdong-Guangxi-Hunan Border Column in Fengbei” are consistent with the protected area; Maximum Construction Height: 7.5 meters; Area of Construction Control Zone: 2,223.5 square meters.
