Handan Longhu Park

Longhu Park is bordered by Renmin Road to the south, Fudong Street to the east, Congtai Road to the north, and the Fuyang River to the west, covering an area of about one million square meters. The water in Longhu Lake originates from the Fuyang River and flows back into it. It enters from the southwest, flows northeastward, forms a lake in the middle, and exits from the northwest. Majestically lying like a dragon, it is thus named “Longhu Park.” A sketch-style narrative of visiting Longhu Park includes three gates, three lakes, three islands, eleven bridges; highlights such as the Dragon Bridge — known as the “Water Great Wall,” the “Water Welcoming Pine,” and the “Musical Light Fountain” — the water screen movie, lotus pond at sunset, and the Dragon Head Stone, among over 20 must-see scenic spots.

Longhu Park has three gates: east, south, and north, arranged in a triangular “品” shape. Each gate features unique rocks, peculiar altars, and distinctive gardens.

The east gate faces Fudong Street and is about 100 meters wide from north to south. Forty-six “colon-shaped stones” bow at the entrance, welcoming visitors. Upon entering, you can ascend the “Sun Altar.” At dawn, looking eastward from the altar, you’ll see the sun rising slowly with the sky ablaze in red. Moving forward on the altar, a cluster of “torch stones” appears to be “burning fiercely,” never extinguished, symbolizing the everlasting prosperity and flourishing of our great nation.

A hundred meters westward from the east gate lies the “First Scenic Spot of Longhu Park” — the “Water Great Wall” — also known as the “Longhu Boardwalk” or “Dragon Bridge.” The Dragon Bridge resembles a dragon, with an uneven bridge surface and a winding body stretching over 100 meters in length.

The south gate faces Renmin Road and resembles an ancient Roman temple. Twenty-four shining stone pillars, each over six meters tall, stand in four rows and six columns, creating a magnificent and majestic sight. Upon entering and ascending the altar, more than 20 pine and cypress trees stand on both sides, as if lining up to welcome you. The flower stands on the altar are vibrant with colors, competing in beauty. The flower stands come in various shapes: rectangular, square, triangular, diamond, trapezoidal, right-angled, circular, and oval. In the center stands a remarkably lifelike “Camel Stone,” facing east with its tail to the west, as if struggling through the desert, with the sound of camel bells seemingly ringing in your ears. The camel’s spirit of perseverance, hard work, wind-resistance, and relentless forward motion is truly admirable. This is the first scenic highlight upon entering from the south gate.

The north gate, facing Congtai Road, is built tough like steel, curved like a drawn bow. A “coral stone” stands proudly at the entrance. Walking inside toward the south feels like ascending a “Heavenly Altar.” At the southeast corner of the altar, a pair of “Mandarin Duck Lion Stones” are carved vividly, hugging closely and inseparably, symbolizing eternal and unchanging love between people.

Visiting the park through the three different gates offers varying sightseeing sequences. As some visitors say: “Start with the bridge at the east gate, the lake at the south gate, and the hill at the north gate” — which seems quite reasonable.
