Yangmei Millennium Ancient Tree Group Scenic Area

The Yangmei Millennium Ancient Tree Group Scenic Area is situated in Yangmei Village, Chenglong Town, in the southern part of Longnan County, about 20 kilometers from the county center, and spans an area of 8 square kilometers. The Taojiang River basin within the scenic area had the Niujitan Hydropower Station built in 1996. The upstream section is 7 kilometers long, with the river being 100 to 150 meters wide. The water is clear and beautiful, with rippling waves, and the banks are adorned with lush pines, verdant bamboo, peculiar rocks, ancient trees, birdsong, and floral fragrances—creating a fairyland-like atmosphere. It stands as a uniquely picturesque natural landscape destination within Longnan’s tourism offerings, featuring serene lakes and mountain vistas. The area boasts a rich variety of attractions, including Mirror Lake, the Millennium Ancient Tree Group, Wumei Mountain Nunnery, Sanhe Ancient Temple, Baogai Rock, Monk Rock, Magpie Cliff, and the Rock-Drilling Waterfall, among 22 scenic spots. Stepping into the Millennium Ancient Tree Group, visitors are greeted by towering ancient trees with dense foliage that stretch high into the sky, forming a vast green canopy covering nearly a hundred acres. Research indicates that most of the tree species here are bitter hammer trees, alongside precious varieties such as red maple, yellow sandalwood, red ballwood, sculpted hornbeam, and osmanthus. Some of the larger trees have trunk diameters exceeding 3 meters, while the average is around 2 meters. One of the most striking features showcasing the ancient ecological richness is the buttress roots connected to the tree trunks. These roots take on a myriad of shapes, resembling dragons lying at rest on the ground beneath the trees. Additionally, ancient vines cling to the old trees, twisting and hanging down gracefully, highlighting the unspoiled beauty of nature. This unique natural landscape leaves visitors spellbound and filled with awe.
