Jiulian Mountain National Nature Reserve is a national-level nature reserve.

Jiulian Mountain National Nature Reserve is located in Longnan County on the border of Jiangxi and Guangdong provinces at the foot of the Nanling Mountains. It gets its name from connecting nine counties across both Jiangxi and Guangdong, as well as having 99 peaks linked together. It is the only nature reserve in the province that is part of the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Programme. Spanning 21,300 hectares, the area boasts dense forests and vast expanses of pristine subtropical evergreen broadleaf forest, with a rich abundance of ancient and relict plant species. These include the coarse-toothed tree fern and ginkgo, known as living fossils, which date back to the age of dinosaurs, as well as Cretaceous relict plants such as the southern yew and podocarpus. The region features undulating peaks, deep valleys, and majestic scenery. With its forest landscapes, cultural heritage, Hakka traditions, and harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, the reserve offers a beautiful ecological environment, rich biodiversity, and is home to 2,796 species of higher plants, 226 species of birds, and 1,404 species of forest insects. It stands out for its greenery, sunlight, and forest scenery, possessing unique natural environments and landscape resources that form a distinctive and self-contained ecosystem.

Jiulian Mountain serves as the southern gateway of our province facing Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. It is just 270 kilometers from Guangzhou and 210 kilometers from Ganzhou. National Highway 105 runs through the entire area, while the Beijing-Kowloon Railway crosses the county, making transportation convenient and fast. It takes less than half a day to travel from bustling cities to this tranquil and uniquely charming “hidden paradise,” giving it strong advantages in terms of tourism timing, spatial efficiency, and economic location.

Jiulian Mountain Nature Reserve enjoys an exceptionally favorable natural environment and abundant natural resources. Its stunning and picturesque forest scenery, serene and fresh mountain landscapes, pleasant climate throughout all seasons, and diverse flora and fauna make it an ideal destination for scholars and researchers from around the world. At the same time, it has become an increasingly sought-after eco-tourism destination, where visitors can immerse themselves in the magnificent and enchanting “sea of green.”
