Cat Cabinet Enclosure

Cat Cabinet Enclosure is a cultural heritage site protected by Longnan City.

Cat Cabinet Enclosure is located in Xinli Village, Liren Township, Longnan County, Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province, and was built by Wu Mingzhu. It has a square “mouth” shape, covering an area of 361 square meters, with each wall side measuring 20 meters in length, 0.8 meters in thickness, and 6 meters in height. There are watchtowers at each of the four corners. Constructed in the late Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty, not long ago, and because of its small size, locals refer to it as the “New Enclosure,” or also the “Small Enclosure.” The enclosed house faces west and is built in a “mouth” shaped layout, with three-story watchtowers at each corner. The living quarters have two floors, with six rooms on each of the upper and lower levels, totaling 12 rooms. The second floor features a covered corridor. There is also a small hall, one courtyard, and one well. The enclosure is solidly built, rigorously designed, with lime-plastered walls and a stone structure in a simple, classic style. Cat Cabinet Enclosure is the smallest Hakka enclosed house. It was designated as part of the second batch of county-level cultural heritage protection units by the county government in 2008.
