The First Mountain of the Long March (Yunshi Mountain) is a classic red tourism destination.

Yunshi Mountain is located 19 kilometers west of Ruijin City, Jiangxi Province, and was the site of the Central Government of the Chinese Soviet Republic. In October 1934, central authorities and the main forces of the First Red Army set out from here on the first leg of the 25,000-li Long March.

Yunshi Mountain is less than 50 meters high and covers an area of less than 1,000 square meters. The mountain features rugged rocks in a myriad of shapes, with steep cliffs on all sides and only one stone-paved path leading to the summit.

The First Mountain of the Long March (Yunshi Mountain) is located 15 kilometers southwest of Ruijin. In July 1934, the Provisional Central Government relocated from Shazhouba to the ancient Yunshan Temple on this small mountain, which boasts beautiful scenery. In October 1934, central authorities were organized into the Central Column of the Red Army and began the Long March from Yunshi Mountain, hence its title as the “First Mountain of the Long March.”

Ruijin is situated in the middle section of the Wuyi Mountains, surrounded by peaks and crisscrossed by rivers, forming numerous picturesque natural landscapes. Since ancient times, it has been known for the “Eight Scenic Spots of the Mian River,” among which Luohan Rock, one of the province-level “Eight Major Natural Scenic Areas,” is the most representative. It is famed for its “extraordinary mountains, deep valleys, peculiar rocks, and secluded springs,” offering serene scenery and a cool climate—truly a place where “springs fly even in sunshine, bringing rain-like mist, and clouds linger, keeping summer cool.” The scenic area includes twelve scenic spots such as Sword-Testing Rock, Candle Peak, Pearl-Sprinkling Spring, and Thousand-Zhang Cliff. Chen Shi Reservoir within the area resembles a dancing jade ribbon, with shimmering lake light reflecting the surrounding mountains and rivers. Many moving legends and travel poems have been left here, making it a tourist destination that combines history, culture, religion, sightseeing, and vacation. Other attractions include Mianjiang Immersed Moon, Penholder Piercing the Sky, and Twin Lion Rock.

Yunshi Mountain Township: Yunshi Mountain Township is a land of red spirit, known as the “First Township of the Red Army’s Long March.” It is located in the western part of Ruijin City, 12 kilometers from downtown Ruijin. It borders Shazhouba Town to the east, Wuyang Town to the south, Wan Tian and Xijiang Town of Huichang to the west, and Jiubao Town to the north.
