Shanghai Garden Mansions Witness Century-Old Glamour──Ruijin Hotel

The Ruijin Hotel is made up of four European-style buildings and three independent gardens. Buildings No. 1 and No. 2 were built in the 1920s and were originally the standalone garden residences of Moriss, the former owner of the Shanghai greyhound racing track. In 1945, they became the headquarters of the Kuomintang's Inspiration Society, where Soong Mei-ling once stayed. After the liberation in 1949, they were taken over by the East China Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party.

Building No. 3 was taken over by the Shanghai Real Estate Bureau after Moriss passed away, while Building No. 4, built in 1963, was formerly the Japanese Mitsui Bussan. By 1956, the Ruijin Hotel had opened to the public as a hotel for entertaining distinguished guests and has also hosted many heads of state during that time.

Each villa includes guest rooms, banquet halls, and meeting rooms. The 7-hectare garden is equipped with fountains, pavilions, and grapevine-covered pergolas. In addition to offering accommodations, it also provides a venue for weddings.
