Ruijin Haiyun Temple

Ruijin Haiyun Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

Haiyun Temple is located on the eastern side of the main peak of Candle Peak, winding its way up with 219 stone steps that lead visitors to the temple. All year round, it is frequently enveloped in fog. The ancient pathway twists like a coiled dragon, and the stone steps flow like ribbons, emerging and vanishing amid the mist. Those who walk here feel as though they are stepping on clouds, ethereal as immortals, as if soaring into the sky — a true experience of “leaving behind the clamor of the mundane world and entering a realm of the mystical and the sublime.”

Haiyun Temple is solemn and dignified, with a unique charm. In the early 1990s, with the support of the government and the sponsorship of devotees, the temple was restored to its former glory. The architectural complex, including the Mahavira Hall and the Thousand Buddha Pagoda, is gracefully arranged and resplendent in gold.

Zhao Puchu, former Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, President of the Buddhist Association of China, and renowned calligrapher, personally inscribed the plaque bearing the name “Haiyun Temple,” which hangs prominently at the entrance of the Mahavira Hall. The newly built Haiyun Temple is majestic and grand, enshrining a 5-meter-tall gilded statue of Guanyin. The temple also houses numerous revered saintly figures, as well as precious Buddhist scriptures and calligraphic works by master artists.
