Former Site of the Ruijin Maying Marxist Communist School

The former site of the Ruijin Maying Marxist Communist School is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a classic red tourism destination.

The former site of the Ruijin Maying Marxist Communist School was originally the Liu Family Ancestral Hall, built in 1897. It features a brick-and-wood structure, faces south, and has a layout comprising two halls, one central courtyard, one wing, and one row of rooms. With a flush gable roof covered in small blue tiles, the building covers an area of 566.91 square meters. In March 1933, the Marxist Communist School was founded at the private Liu Family Ancestral Hall in Yangxi, Maying, Ruijin. Ren Bishi, Zhang Wentian, and Li Weihan successively served as presidents, while Yang Shangkun, Dong Biwu, and Feng Xuefeng served as vice presidents. The school had departments such as Academic Affairs, General Affairs, and Textbook Compilation and Review. It offered training programs for new Soviet area staff, party-league-Soviet trade union members, and advanced courses. Subjects included the basic principles of Marxism-Leninism, party construction, Soviet construction, workers’ movements, Chinese history, Western revolutionary history, geography, general knowledge of natural science, and various academic lectures. The Marxist Communist School was the first central advanced party school established by the Chinese Communist Party. It trained a large number of revolutionary political cadres and holds significant reference value for the party construction and cadre development of New China.

On October 7, 2019, the former site of the Ruijin Maying Marxist Communist School was included in the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
