The former site of the First Labor Reformatory of the Chinese Soviet Republic in Renti is located at Laliwuxia, Fenggang Village, Renti Town, Ruijin City, Jiangxi Province. It is the ancestral hall of the Zhong Tangyi family, built in the “nine halls and eighteen courtyards” style, with a history of over 300 years. Constructed from brick and wood, it features a flush gable roof and a three-courtyard layout, with side rooms in the upper, middle, and lower halls. The structure houses 16 large pillars and covers an area of 1,683 square meters.

On August 10, 1932, the No. 2 Order of the Central Judicial Department stipulated: “The labor reformatory is a subordinate organ of the judiciary department, tasked with guarding, educating, and reforming individuals who violate the laws and decrees of the Soviet government, so that they will not reoffend after serving their sentences.” In the autumn of 1932, the First Labor Reformatory of the Chinese Soviet Republic was established here. It had departments for general affairs, labor management, and culture. The establishment of the labor reformatory reflected the Soviet government’s policy of combining punishment with rehabilitation for offenders. Emphasizing the reformation and education of inmates was one of the successful experiences in the legal development of the Soviet Area.
