Former Site of the Central Bureau of the Communist Party of China (Xiashao)

The former site of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee (including the Central Bureau of the CPC in the Soviet Area) is located in Xiashao, Shazhoubacun Village, Shazhoubazhen Town, Ruijin City, Jiangxi Province. Originally a private residence built in 1879 by Yang Huipeng, it faces west with an eastward orientation. The structure is made of brick and wood, featuring two halls, one courtyard, two wing rooms, a surrounding wall, small blue tiles, a gable-and-hip roof, and a courtyard paved with cobblestones. It covers an area of 1,127.96 square meters.

The Provisional Central Committee of the Communist Party of China was established in Shanghai in September 1931, with Bo Gu as the overall leader. In January 1933, it relocated here from Shanghai to carry out its work. In April of the same year, the Central Bureau of the CPC in the Soviet Area also moved here from YePing, Ruijin. At the Fifth Plenary Session of the Sixth CPC Central Committee in January 1934, the leadership body of the Central Bureau of the Communist Party of China (referred to as the “CPC Central Bureau”) was reinstated. Departments such as the Organization Department, Propaganda Department, White Area Work Department, Women’s Department, Party Affairs Committee, Inspection Committee, Auditing Committee, Party Newspaper Committee, and Distribution Department were set up. Leaders who worked and lived here included Bo Gu, Zhang Wentian, Chen Yun, Li Weihan, Deng Yingchao, and Mao Zetan. In July 1934, the CPC Central Bureau moved to Madaoke Village, Fenglong, Yanshi Mountain. It was designated as a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level in 1961.
