Site of the Rengtian Battle

The Site of the Rengtian Battle is located within Rengtian Town, Ruijin City, situated between the villages of Xiajie and Gaoxuan. The battlefield of the Rengtian Battle stretches approximately 2 kilometers from north to south and 1 kilometer from east to west. The main combat area was on the northern hillside behind Xihezi in Gaoxuan Village — a long, narrow ridge about 30 meters high, covering an area of 5,000 square meters.

From August 3 to 5, 1927, the troops of the Nanchang Uprising — commemorated as the “August 1st Nanchang Uprising” — withdrew from Nanchang in batches and marched southward toward Guangdong. On August 25, He Long led the 12th Army into Rengtian from the Dabai direction of Ruijin. There, the uprising forces encountered two regiments of the enemy Qian Dajun’s troops, who had been deployed to block their advance. After fierce fighting, the enemy forces retreated toward Ruijin County and Huichang.
