Former Site of the General Anti-Imperialist and Pro-Soviet Alliance

The former site of the Central Soviet Area’s General Anti-Imperialist and Pro-Soviet Alliance is located at Shanglongwei, Hebi Street Neighborhood Committee, Xianghu Town, Ruijin City, Jiangxi Province. Originally the ancestral hall of the Liu family, it was built in 1049, featuring a brick-and-wood structure, facing south with a slight westward orientation, a flush gable roof, and consisting of two halls and one courtyard, covering a total area of 545.09 square meters.

In June 1932, the General Anti-Imperialist Alliance organization was established, with Chen Shouchang as its chairman. Its purpose was to unite oppressed workers, peasants, laborers, and Red Army soldiers to actively participate in the Chinese revolution under the banner of opposing imperialism and to overthrow imperialist rule. In November of the same year, the Central Soviet Area also established the Pro-Soviet Alliance, primarily to mobilize all workers, peasants, and Red Army soldiers to join the national revolutionary war against imperialism and the Kuomintang, and to arm in support of the Soviet Union. In early 1933, to avoid organizational duplication and centralize activities, the General Anti-Imperialist Alliance and the Pro-Soviet Alliance merged and were collectively referred to as the Central Soviet Area’s General Anti-Imperialist and Pro-Soviet Alliance, with Chen Shouchang remaining as chairman. The alliance operated from this building. In early 1934, it was relocated to Yunshi Mountain.

Xianghu Town: Located in the central part of Ruijin City, Xianghu Town is the seat of the Ruijin Municipal Committee and Municipal Government. During the Eastern Han Dynasty, the area was named Xianghu (meaning “elephant lake”) due to its terrain resembling an elephant and its numerous ponds like lakes. The town covers a total area of 34.5 square kilometers (with an urban area of 18 square kilometers), encompassing 8 administrative villages, 11 communities, 247 neighborhood groups, and a total population of 235,000, including 39,000 agricultural residents. The town’s Party committee oversees 1 general branch and 28 party branches, with 2,253 party members. The main industries include logistics and warehousing, tourism services, construction labor, construction machinery, garment processing, and vegetable farming.
