Former Site of the Health Newspaper Office

The former site of the Health Newspaper Office is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

The former site of the Yeping Health Newspaper Office is located at Shitingxia, Zhufang Village, Yeping Township, Ruijin City, Jiangxi Province. It is the “Sibaiweng Ancestral Hall,” which has a history of over 200 years. The building faces southeast and sits northwest, constructed with brick and wood, featuring a flush gable roof, two wells and one hall, with a width of three bays. Inside there are 14 round wooden pillars, covering a total area of 98.42 square meters.

The Health Newspaper Office was established in the autumn of 1931. Initially, it was sponsored by the General Medical Department of the Front Committee of the First Red Army. After the establishment of the General Health Department of the Central Revolutionary Military Commission in the winter of 1931, its publication was taken over by the Propaganda Section of the Health Department. The newspaper was a single-sided stencil publication released irregularly, initially printing only a few hundred copies, but later distributed across various localities in the Soviet Area, gradually increasing its print run. The establishment of the Health Newspaper Office played an active role in safeguarding the health of wounded and sick soldiers during the Red Army’s counter-encirclement campaigns and in helping the people in the Soviet Area prevent and treat diseases. In 1934, after the main forces of the Red Army embarked on the Long March, the newspaper office also moved with the army.
