Yuangui Temple

Yuangui Temple is located on Hongyu Island, south of Xiayu Village in Dongqiao Town, Xiuyu District, and is a subsidiary temple of Guanghua Temple. The temple sits against Jinxian Mountain, covered with lush forests, and faces an endless expanse of salt flats. Jinxian Mountain boasts dense vegetation, birdsong, and floral fragrance, surrounded by beaches on all sides, with a humid climate and fresh air.

Yuangui Temple was founded in the year of Wuzi during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1768 AD) by the monk Shanhe, who had ordained at Guanghua Temple. It enshrines Buddha statues such as Sakyamuni and Guanyin. At one time, it had a monastic community of over ten monks, but due to historical reasons, the temple was completely razed to the ground. In 1985, with funding assistance from overseas monks of Guanghua Temple—Master Yuanming and Master Dinghai—the Main Hall (Mahavira Hall) and the Hall of Great Mercy (Dabei Hall) were rebuilt. After 1993, with continued construction efforts by Monk Shanghui and devoted followers from Xiayu Village, side wing rooms, perimeter walls, and the mountain gate were added, giving the temple its initial scale.
