After six months’ hiatus — Explore former military relics at Kinmen’s “Lieyu Visitor Center” reopening

After six months, the Kinmen National Park Headquarters announced that the Lieyu Visitor Center and its surrounding area have completed renovation works and will reopen to the public starting today.

The KNH stated that the Lieyu Visitor Center has been closed since March this year for related facility improvement projects, including ground surface renewal, replacement of service counters with stainless steel materials, addition of service counter covers, and repair of the accessible ramp at the entrance. The relevant works have now been completed, and the center reopens to the public today.

The Lieyu Visitor Center was originally built by the military and once served as the Jiugong Hospital, providing medical services to both military personnel and civilians. After being taken over by the KNH, it was renovated and repurposed as a visitor center. It primarily showcases recreational information, geological landscapes, military strongholds, bird ecology, and local cuisine in the Lieyu area. There are also staff providing regular guided interpretation and consultation services. During summer (until August 31), the opening hours are extended to 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily. Visitors are welcome to make good use of the facilities.
