Nanri Island is the largest island in Putian City, located just 7 nautical miles from Shicheng. Since ancient times, it has been a strategic military location, boasting beautiful scenery, numerous historical sites, and rich cultural heritage. On October 30, 1937 (the 26th year of the Republic of China), Sa Fuzhen, the head of Nanri Island Affairs, wrote the *Nanri Island Annals*. The book provides a brief record of the island’s history, topography, affiliated islands, scenic spots, transportation, climate, produce, population, clans, customs, religion, and more. It essentially reflects the natural and cultural overview of Nanri Island. The book is a handwritten manuscript, now housed in the Putian City Library. Below are the six major scenic highlights of the island, presented for readers’ enjoyment.

1. Watching the Sunrise at Fudou Mountain: Located on the eastern part of Nanri Island, Fudou Mountain faces the East China Sea. At dawn, as the sun rises from the sea, it appears like a giant wheel emerging between the sea and sky. At this time, boats shuttle across the radiant sea surface, creating a magnificent and breathtaking scene.

2. Panoramic View from Jian Mountain: Jian Mountain on Nanri Island gets its name from its sharply pointed peak. The mountain top is home to historic sites such as the Jade Emperor Palace and the Guan Yu Temple. The mountain is covered with uniquely shaped, massive rocks. Standing atop the mountain, you can overlook the entire island and gaze at the vast sea, where fishing boats set sail under full sails, presenting a picturesque and prosperous scene that is truly poetic and beautiful.

3. The Majestic Nine-Dragon Mountains: Located in the central part of Nanri Island, the Nine-Dragon Mountains are rugged and stretch for miles, forming an awe-inspiring sight that resembles a giant dragon lying across the island. The terrain here is perilous and has historically been a fiercely contested military site. Some old fortifications and defensive structures from ancient strongholds still remain. Visiting the mountains offers plenty to ponder.

4. The Ancient Tomb at Sihui: The origins of this ancient tomb remain untraceable, but legend has it that it belongs to a prominent Song Dynasty official whose family tragically drowned during a sea voyage. Out of compassion, local islanders buried their remains in the hills of Guwan Islets. The mountain is often shrouded in mist, with swirling vapors rising gently, creating an enchanting landscape. It is not only a scenic spot but also a sacred religious site where locals pray for blessings and disaster relief.

5. Sunset Glow at Xizhai Harbor: Xizhai, or Xizhai Harbor, transforms into a golden wonderland at sunset, when the sky is painted with radiant clouds. The harbor, island, sea, and mountains all glow brilliantly, resembling a fairyland.

6. The Shrine of the Loyal Maiden on Longtou Mountain: The loyal maiden, originally named Lin Jun, sacrificed her life to save others drowning at sea. To commemorate her, a shrine was built on Longtou Mountain, enshrining her statue. For thousands of years, the temple has remained bustling with incense and worshippers. The entire Longtou Mountain exudes a vibrant and lively atmosphere.
