Reconstruction Site of the Putian Coastal Guerrilla Unit
The Reconstruction Site of the Putian Coastal Guerrilla Unit is a classic red tourism attraction.
The Reconstruction Site of the Putian Coastal Guerrilla Unit is located at Cutou, Banwei Village, Yuetaang Township, Xiuyu District, Putian City.
In late 1934, the Putian Coastal Guerrilla Unit was re-established on the lawn plaza of Chongfu Temple in Banwei. Attendees of the founding meeting included leaders of the CPC Putian County Central Committee such as Wang Yujie, Pan Tao, Chen Jianxin, Huang Guozhang, as well as guerrilla members. At the meeting, Wang Yujie announced the list of guerrilla leaders: Wu Jiuman was appointed captain, Zhang Jiesheng as deputy captain, and Zheng Wenda as propagandist. The unit was to be under the unified command of Pan Tao. After the meeting, the guerrilla members, led by Chen Jianxin, secretary of the Zhongmen District Working Committee, set off on a march—their route passed through villages including Shanhou, Banwei, Dongkeng, Dongguo, Yangdai, Dongpan, and Houpan. Along the way, they shouted slogans such as “Down with the Kuomintang reactionaries,” “Down with the local tyrants and evil gentry,” “Long live the Red Army,” “Long live the Communist Party of China,” and “Establish a Soviet government.” The grand procession set up camp in the evening at Houpan Village. From then on, this passionate revolutionary force, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, continued to grow and expand. It carried out agrarian movements, resistance against Japanese aggression, and struggles against the “Three Levies” along the mid-coastal regions of Fujian, making tremendous contributions to the liberation of the Chinese people.
The Reconstruction Site of the Putian Coastal Guerrilla Unit is Chongfu Temple, which is built against a slope and divided into three levels: high, middle, and low. The main body of the temple sits at the highest elevation and was constructed using traditional temple-building methods, standing about 7 meters above the ground. The second-highest level consists of two symmetrical single-story structures, each half a room wide, serving as kitchens and dining halls, with name plaques erected in front of each. The lowest level comprises side rooms, two stories high with three rooms per floor, reaching a total height of about 8 meters, used for commemorative exhibitions, featuring brief introductions of some revolutionaries.
