Attraction Introduction

Yangjiaxi is located in Yacheng Town, Xiapu County. It features the northernmost ancient banyan tree cluster in terms of latitude and the largest pure maple forest in southern China. Among them, the most noteworthy is the “King Banyan,” which is over 800 years old, with a trunk circumference of 12.6 meters, a crown diameter of 51 meters, and a height of 30 meters. The hollow trunk has seven openings, some of which can accommodate several people. When morning sunlight filters through the woods, the dappled shadows create a magical, dreamlike atmosphere.

The Longting Waterfall consists of two parts: the Civilian Waterfall and the Martial Waterfall. The Civilian Waterfall is a single-drop cascade with a drop of 136 meters, while the Martial Waterfall has two levels with a total drop of 135 meters. Surrounding the waterfall are more than 10 other attractions, including General’s Seal, Scholar’s Desk, Rocky Peak, Golden Lion Guarding the Mouth, Jade Rabbit Leaping, General Saluting the Seal, Immortal Sage Sitting on the Mountain, Jade Elephant Peak, Monkey Cave, and Dragon Cave.

About 1 kilometer downstream along the stream, you can take a bamboo raft from Nandou and drift along the water through the “Ten Turns and Twelve Shoals.” The journey takes about two hours to reach Dutou Village. Along the way, you’ll be surrounded by green mountains and clear waters, and can view 36 vivid rock formations such as Tang Monk Worshipping Westward, Bodhidharma Facing the Wall, Turtle Playing with Turtle, Wenguang Breaking the Boat, General’s Hat, and Three-Tiered Rock. Downstream in Dutou Village, there are two maple forests not far apart, covering a total area of 250 acres with over 1,100 maple trees. In late autumn and early winter, the maple leaves turn golden-red, resembling rosy clouds resting on the landscape. The scenery is even more beautiful in spring when flowers bloom.

Transportation

You can take a bus to Yacheng from the old Xiapu Bus Station (near Beimen Hotel) and get off at the Hongshanqiao Scenic Area sign, then transfer to reach the destination.

The fare from Xiapu to Yacheng is 14 RMB, taking about 20 minutes. From Yacheng to Yangjiaxi, the fare is 6 RMB.

By Car:

1. From Wuhan West, take the highway for 120 km to reach Qianjiang Service Area, then continue for another 178 km to reach Yichang (there are three exits: the first is Wujiagang Toll Station—after exiting, turn right at the intersection, then right again at Wuyi Square to enter the city; the second is the Development Zone Exit—after exiting, turn left and go through the roundabout tunnel into the city; the third connects to the Three Gorges Special Highway, leading directly to the dam area). After exiting Ye Mingzhu Station, turn left at the roundabout to enter the city, then continue for 4.3 km until you reach a Y-shaped intersection, turn left for 800 m, then turn left again at the next intersection. After driving 4 km, you’ll reach Baimadong, then 1 km further to Sanyoudong and Xiɑlɑoxī. Continue for 18 km until you reach a T-junction with a Yangjiaxi sign, then turn left and drive 5 km to reach the ferry parking lot.

2. From Wuhan via the Han-Yi Expressway to the ferry parking lot, the total distance is 331.1 km, taking about 4.5 hours.
