The coastal scenery of Beiqi Village in Songgang Subdistrict, Xiapu County, is picturesque, drawing crowds of photography enthusiasts. The tidal flats of Xiapu boast breathtaking landscapes and were ranked among the “80 Most Photogenic Places in China” by Digital Photography magazine in 2012. They were also highlighted as one of the top 22 photography destinations, attracting over 200,000 domestic and international photography enthusiasts annually.

The tidal flats, used for cultivating shellfish and nori, along with fishermen’s activities such as digging for clams, harvesting shellfish, maintaining and collecting nori, and setting up nets, infuse the scenery with human and regional elements. With every step, the view changes, offering a rich variety of subjects for photography. At high tide, bustling boats weave through the shadows of poles, blending seamlessly with the shimmering sea, islands, and distant mountains—an indescribable beauty. Beiqi is an inland wetland, and its leopard-spotted tidal flats come alive with even a touch of light. As the sun sets and gold bathes the flats, the wonder is beyond words... Beiqi is photogenic in all seasons, allowing for flexible shooting angles—whether looking up or down—and endless opportunities for both scenic and documentary photography.

During the peak nori production season in Beiqi, tens of thousands of bamboo poles are inserted into the tidal flats, forming square net frames that stretch as far as the eye can see, covering dozens of miles in a magnificent display. Around six in the morning, a fiery ball rises from the sea, and in an instant, the ocean is gilded with a layer of golden light. On the mountain path hundreds of meters above, photographers hold their breath as the sound of camera shutters—“click, click”—fills the air. Strips of nori hang on silk nets in hues of red, black, and purple, resembling an unretouched ink painting, captured in countless lenses and exposed on colorful film.

Transportation

By Car:

1. From Ningde:

Ningde – G15 (Xiapu direction, 62.5 km) – X961 (1.1 km) – Chian Avenue (5 km) – Beiqi Village (on the left side of the road)

2. From Fuzhou:

Drive 680 meters along Wushan Road and turn directly onto Guting Road. Continue for 1.7 km, cross the Ziyang Overpass, and go straight onto Fuma Road. After 1.6 km, at the Wuliting Interchange, head toward Xiamen/Baihuting, turn right onto Wuliting Interchange, drive 680 m toward Guohuo East Road, make a slight right, drive 80 m, pass the China Railway Building on the left (about 160 m), continue straight onto Lianjiang Middle Road, drive 10 m and turn left at Liupan Overpass, drive 30 m, continue straight onto Yuanyang Road, drive 16.6 km. Head toward Ningde/Wenzhou/Shenhai Expressway, make a slight left (toll road), drive 680 m straight (toll road), continue for 158.7 km. After passing Fushan Village (about 250 m), exit the highway (toll road), drive 200 m, continue straight after passing Sansha Interchange Bridge No. 2 (about 250 m), enter Xiapu County, drive 240 m straight, then 160 m toward Xiapu, and arrive at Beiqi.

By Public Transport:

In Xiapu County, take a minibus to Songshan (about 8 km, 3 RMB), or take a taxi or motorcycle (about 10 minutes) to Beiqi Village. It takes about 15 minutes from Xiapu Railway Station to Beiqi.
