Waipu Castle

Waipu Castle is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

Waipu Castle is located in Waipu Village, Xiahu Town, Xiapu County, and dates back to the Ming Dynasty.

Introduction: Constructed in the 34th year of the Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty (1555) and renovated multiple times, the castle features an oval floor plan. Its walls are built with pebbles and stone blocks, spanning a perimeter of 648 meters. The base is 5.5 meters wide, narrowing to 3.6 meters at the top, with an overall height of 6 meters. A riding path approximately 2 meters wide is preserved. There are five gates: the east and north gates are rectangular, while the west and south gates are arched. This castle provides significant physical evidence for the study of China’s coastal defense history.

In 2013, Waipu Castle was designated as part of the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Protected area: An additional 10 meters extending outward from the perimeter of the castle.
