Bapu Fort

Bapu Fort is a cultural relic protection unit of Fujian Province.

Bapu Fort is located in Bapu Village, Shajiang Town, Xiapu County, dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Description: Originally built in the 32nd year of the Jiajing reign during the Ming Dynasty (1553) and renovated in the 4th year of the Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1865). The fort walls are constructed with dry-laid rough stones, with a perimeter of 522 meters, and feature two gates on the east and west sides. The west gate includes a barbican; the gate is 1.6 meters wide, 2.5 meters high, and 4 meters thick. The east gate is 2.0 meters wide, 2.5 meters high, and 4 meters thick, with a stone lintel inscribed in intaglio: “East Gate, Renovated in the 4th Year of the Tongzhi Reign, Year of Yichou (1865).” The streets inside the fort largely retain their original layout.

In 2013, Bapu Fort was designated as part of the eighth batch of Provincial-Level Cultural Relics Protection Units by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Protected area: An additional 20 meters outward from the perimeter of the fort walls.
