Scenic spots:

Qingxi River Basin: adorned with Gaojia Reservoir and Xiayang Reservoir. The dam site of Gaojia Reservoir controls a catchment area of 180 km², with a total storage capacity of 38.86 million m³. It is a medium-sized reservoir primarily used for flood control and irrigation, along with comprehensive utilization for tourism, leisure, sightseeing, and water supply.

Xiayang Reservoir: Crystal clear like a mirror; it also resembles the bright eyes of a young girl, delighting the heart. As dusk approaches and the evening mist begins to rise, the setting sun peeks in and out of the clouds, scattering fragments of golden light across the water’s surface. Fishing boats return at sunset, mountain birds head back to their nests, and a thin mist gradually rises over the water, shrouding it like a veil—creating a hazy, dreamlike scene.

Tianchi Scenic Area: Numerous waterfalls are scattered across the central area at elevations of 800–1000 m, including the Cloud-Piercing Waterfall, Stream-Drinking Waterfall, Thousand-Foot Waterfall, and Triple-Tiered Waterfall.

Forests in the scenic area: With a forest coverage rate of 72.13%, the warm and humid mid-subtropical monsoon climate has nurtured abundant plant resources, including numerous rare and precious tree species. These consist of national first-class protected wild plants such as Alsophila spinulosa, Cycas revoluta, Ginkgo biloba, Metasequoia glyptostroboides, Glyptostrobus pensilis, and Taxus wallichiana var. mairei, as well as national second-class protected wild plants like Cibotium barometz, Pseudotsuga gaussenii, Pseudolarix amabilis, Pseudotsuga gaussenii, Torreya grandis var. jiulongshanensis, Dipterocarpus tuberculatus, Phoebe bournei, Fokienia hodginsii, Magnolia sargentiana, Liriodendron chinense, Cinnamomum camphora, Ormosia henryi, Cinnamomum porrectum, Camphora officinarum, Toona sinensis, Zelkova schneideriana, and many more. There are also numerous provincially protected wild plants such as Cinnamomum micranthum, Cyclocarya paliurus, Juglans cathayensis, Osmanthus fragrans var. yunnanensis, and Cephalotaxus fortunei—too many to list—all of which hold significant scientific research value, making it a true “plant gene bank.” The rich vegetation provides an ideal habitat for wildlife. Among them, national first-class protected animals include the python, yellow-bellied tragopan, and black muntjac; national second-class protected animals include the tiger frog, Chinese giant salamander, macaque, and pangolin; and Fujian Provincial protected animals include the cobra, black-spotted frog, and egrets. In the deep forests and secluded streams, one can often see fish, insects, birds, and beasts living in peaceful harmony, showcasing the boundless vitality of nature.

Site of the Dazhou Negotiations: The famous “Dazhou Negotiations” between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party in Fujian and Jiangxi led to an agreement on united resistance against Japan and a united front. The Dazhou Negotiations site has become a red tourism destination in Fujian Province and a revolutionary education base in Northern Fujian, adding profound historical significance to the Tianchi Water Conservancy Scenic Area.
