The former site of the Soviet Government of Dongfang County is a cultural heritage site protected by Fujian Province and a classic red tourism destination.

The former site of the Soviet Government of Dongfang County is located in Shangguan Village, Lifang Township, Guangze County, dating back to 1933.

Description: In July 1933, to strengthen leadership in border areas such as Lichuan, Guangze, and Shaowu along the Fujian-Jiangxi provincial boundary, the Fujian-Jiangxi Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China established Dongfang County, which was directly under the committee’s jurisdiction. The county Party committee and the Soviet government were headquartered here, with internal departments including the Military Affairs Department, Finance Department, Suppression of Counterrevolutionaries Committee, Internal Affairs Department, Food Department, Economics Department, and Women’s Department. The site faces southeast and is situated to the northwest, consisting of a porch, main hall, rear hall, and others, covering an area of 493 square meters. The main hall is five bays wide and seven pillars deep, while the rear hall is three bays wide and six pillars deep. Both have post-and-lintel beam frames and flush gable roofs.

In 2013, the former site of the Soviet Government of Dongfang County was designated as part of the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage protection units by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Shangguan Village: Shangguan Village is the second-largest administrative village in Lifang Township, Guangze County. It is located at the junction of two provinces and three counties, bordering Lichuan of Jiangxi to the west and Shaowu City of Fujian Province to the east. It is 45 kilometers from the county seat and 15 kilometers from the township.

The village area of Shangguan covers 22.07 square kilometers, with a current population of 1,791 people, 432 households, and 7 natural villages divided into 15 villager groups. It is a base village of the revolutionary old area. The forested area spans 36,000 mu, and the paddy field area is 3,132 mu, averaging 1.75 mu per person.
