Huayang Mountain

Huayang Mountain is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a national water conservancy scenic area.

The Huayang Mountain Scenic Area is located in the northwest of Shunchang County in the Wuyi Mountain Range, a UNESCO World Heritage site, about 8 kilometers from the county town. Centered around Tianmen Peak, Huayang Peak, and Sanbao Peak, the scenic area spans approximately 5 square kilometers.

The area boasts dense forests, towering peaks, cascading springs and waterfalls, rare wildlife, strange rocks, and various caves, exuding an air of mystery since ancient times. With its extraordinary scenery and convenient access, Huayang Mountain Scenic Area is an ideal destination for leisure travel.

Waterfall

The scenic area’s highlights include waterfalls, peculiar rocks, and caves. There are three main routes: the middle path, the left path, and the right path. Starting from the right path and ascending along the mountain stream, visitors will encounter a series of more than ten waterfalls of varying sizes, the most captivating of which are the three-tiered waterfalls. The first tier is the Jade Dragon Pool Waterfall, where the spring surges down through the crevices of giant rocks like a jade dragon plunging into the pool. This waterfall is as exquisite as carved jade and osmanthus blossoms, with the pool’s waters flowing gently and gracefully, surrounded by densely shaded bamboo and vines. The second tier is the Mandarin Duck Waterfall, stretching over 50 meters in length and more than 10 meters in width, descending at a 45-degree slope. The water uniformly spills down from the rock surface at the top of the falls like a white silk ribbon unfurling, while the high-speed flow crashing against the rugged cliff face resembles shattered jade and scattered snow, creating a majestic and powerful spectacle. The waterfall pours into a pool nearly 200 square meters in size, forming a natural swimming area. The third tier is the Tiger Leap Waterfall, situated at the mountain shoulder between Tianmen Peak and Tiger Rock Peak. The upper section of this waterfall is formed by the convergence of two mountain streams. It stands 26 meters high and 6 meters wide, cascading down with tremendous force as if falling from the heavens, with a roar as loud as summer thunder audible from several kilometers away. When sunlight strikes the mist generated by the waterfall, rainbows often appear, creating a stunning view. Below the waterfall lies a massive rock that strikingly resembles a lion’s head. In the past, this was a frequent haunt of tigers, hence the name “Tiger Leap Waterfall.”

Tianmen Peak

After visiting the waterfalls, you can take the right path to Tianmen Peak, then descend via the middle or left path. Highlights here include Tianmen Stone, Jade Seal Stone, Three Gods Stone, Horse Saddle Stone, Qilin Stone, - Stone, Immortal Palm Rock, and Narcissus Rock. Scenic spots feature formations such as Monkey Gazing at the Moon, Heavenly Turtle Probing the Lake, Golden Sparrow Perching on a Nest, Chang’e’s Song Stage, and Golden Deer Carrying Peaches. Major caves include Guanyin Cave, Snail Wind Cave, Monkey Cave, Eight Immortals Cave, Water Curtain Cave, and Bat Cave.

Ethnic Village

The She ethnic village, commonly known as “Swallow Flat,”—Huangkeng—is dotted with wooden and tiled houses scattered across the slopes at the entrance of the scenic area. The entire village is surrounded by green fields, with bamboo fences, melon trellises, and bean racks, retaining the simple and primitive charm of the She people. At the entrance of the village stands a small stone arch bridge, beside which are towering ancient trees offering cool shade. Beneath the bridge, a waterfall over 10 meters wide and more than 2 meters high cascades down, sending up showers of silvery droplets, with fresh air greeting visitors—a perfect introduction to the scenic area.
