In ancient times, Baoshan was the highest mountain in Shunchang, serving as an ideal location for stationing troops and building a fortress—easy to defend and hard to attack. Historically, the Baoshan area had a large fortress known as Chongdashan City, and remnants of the ancient city walls still exist today. Locally, villagers refer to the ancient city walls as "city wall footings," as they were built along steep cliffs.

The ancient city walls stretch continuously from the bamboo forest in Shanghu Village up to Xianru Peak, spanning approximately seven to eight li in length. Due to the passage of time, most of the walls have collapsed, though several hundred meters of intact sections remain, offering visitors a fascinating destination for exploring history and nature. Along the city wall, the mountain terrain is steep and naturally fortified, making it easy to defend and difficult to assault. From the ramparts, one can gaze down at the sweeping landscape below—endless stretches of undulating bamboo forests, terraced fields crisscrossing the hillsides, and graceful, winding contours.
