Twin Saints Tombstones
The Twin Saints Tombstones are located in the Shuangsheng Temple behind the South Heaven Gate of Baoshan Temple. Built around the same time as the South Heaven Gate, the temple houses two memorial tombstones dedicated to the joint burial of the Monkey King brothers. The tombstones are inscribed
with the words “Shrine of the Great Sage Equaling Heaven from Baofeng” and “Shrine of the Great Sage Reaching Heaven” from Baoshan Temple.
Their tombs predate the completion of Wu Cheng'en's "Journey to the West" by more than 200 years and serve as a rare cultural relic and physical evidence for the study of local monkey god culture and pre-Journey to the West literature.
