Colorful Hongdi Scenic Area
The Colorful Hongdi Scenic Area is a national AA-level tourist attraction.
Shunchang County has leveraged its local natural ecological resources to enhance the “beauty” of its green mountains and clear waters through comprehensive agricultural development. A number of eco-friendly, sustainable tourism towns and distinctive mountain villages have been created, integrating leisure tourism, science education, wellness, creative agriculture, and hands-on farming experiences, contributing to local rural revitalization. The colorful mountain village of Hongdi in Yangdun Township is a fine example, presenting a new look of a beautiful countryside.
Hongdi Village is located in the northern part of Liandun Village, Yangdun Township, Shunchang County, and is a natural village under Liandun. It borders Guixi Village of Renshou to the east, connects to Liandun Village within the township to the south, lies adjacent to Kuzhujì of Pushang to the west, and leads to Bijia Mountain via Hulu Factory to the north. It is 11 kilometers from the township government seat, 57 kilometers from downtown Shunchang, 64 kilometers from Jianyang District, and 117 kilometers from Wuyishan Airport. The Hongdi natural village is just 35 kilometers north of the Xushi interchange on the Punan Expressway and 69 kilometers south of the Sha County highway exit. A planned highway exit for Wuyi New District to Sha County is set to be located in Yangdun Township. The Xuda Highway project has been upgraded, with the roadbed and pavement expanded to 12 meters (full width). These convenient transportation advantages will drive rapid regional economic development in our township and also provide a great opportunity for Hongdi’s growth.
The village was established in 1917, covering a total area of 7 square kilometers with 94 buildings. It currently has a population of 433 people.
In 2000, it was recognized as a revolutionary base village by the Old Revolutionary Base Areas Office of Shunchang County; in 2001, it was named one of the first patriotic education bases in Shunchang County by the county government; in the same year, it was awarded the title of “Provincial Excellent Residential Area for Villages and Towns” by the Fujian Provincial Department of Construction. In October 2017, it was honored as one of the Eighth China Landscape Villages.
Hongdi Village is situated at the foot of Tianping Needle Peak, where the streams of Maoping and Yangxiakeng converge to form a river. The village boasts excellent natural ecology and abundant resources. It has 450 mu of arable land, 3,000 mu of bamboo forests, and 3,000 mu of woodland, with standing timber volume of nearly 10,000 cubic meters, supplying 500 cubic meters of commercial timber annually, producing 5 million jin of citrus fruits, and yielding 200,000 bamboo poles. The area features perennial springs, serene streams, beautiful waterfalls, lush bamboo and woodlands, and sweet oranges and tangerines, creating especially fresh and picturesque scenery.
In February 1931, Miao Min, wife of Fang Zhimin, led the Red Army to Hongdi and Maoping to promote revolutionary ideals and spread revolutionary thought, leaving behind slogans such as “Overthrow the landlords and distribute the land” and “Poor peasants need not pay rent or taxes,” thus planting the seeds of revolution. In May 1935, the Central Party Organization of Northern Fujian sent personnel to Yangdun Hongdi to mobilize the masses and establish a guerrilla unit, with over ten people joining. In February 1938, the guerrilla unit of the Shunchang County Committee of the CPC and other guerrilla forces, including those from Hongdi, gathered in Shitang, Yanshan County, Jiangxi Province, for reorganization into the 5th Regiment of the 3rd Detachment of the New Fourth Army. On the 25th, they marched to the anti-Japanese front in southern Anhui to join the main forces of the New Fourth Army. Remnants of the Red Army’s stationing site and the original office site of Miao Min, wife of Fang Zhimin, can still be found in Hongdi Village.
In 1952, mutual aid groups were formed, with Hongdi being called the Hongdi Group; from 1953 to 1955, primary cooperatives were established, with Hongdi known as the Pingjin Cooperative; from 1956 to 1958, advanced cooperatives were formed, with Hongdi merging into the Kuaile Cooperative; from 1959 to 1960, Hongdi was incorporated into the Jiangcun Brigade; from 1961 to 1983, the Liandun Brigade was established, with Hongdi as a subordinate team; after 1983, the Liandun Brigade was renamed the Liandun Village Committee, with Hongdi as a subordinate natural village.
