The Baijiao Pan Clan Residential Complex

The Baijiao Pan Clan Residential Complex is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

The Baijiao Pan Clan Residential Complex is located in Bancao Ran Village, Baijiao, Zhangzhou City, dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Overview: Comprising six buildings — the ancestral hall of the Pan clan, the front block of the Malu residence, the middle block of the Malu residence, the rear block of the Malu residence, the small ancestral shrine of the Pan residence, and the west house on Dazu Lane — all face south and are typical examples of traditional Southern Fujian architecture.

The ancestral hall of the Pan clan, also known as Huaguo Hall, was first built during the Ming dynasty. It consists of a front courtyard, front hall, central courtyard, main hall, connecting corridor, and covered walkway, covering a construction area of 296 square meters. The front hall is three bays wide and two bays deep, while the main hall is three bays wide and three bays deep. Both feature post-and-lintel beam structures, gable walls supporting the rafters, and flush gable roofs.

The front block of the Malu residence includes a front courtyard, front hall, central courtyard, main hall, connecting corridor rooms, right wing room, rear central courtyard, and rear hall, with a total construction area of 870 square meters. The front hall is five bays wide and two bays deep, the main hall is five bays wide and three bays deep, and the rear hall is five bays wide and three bays deep. All have wall-supported rafters and flush gable roofs.

The middle block of the Malu residence comprises a front courtyard, front hall, central courtyard, connecting corridor room, main hall, rear central courtyard, rear hall, and right-side wing room, covering a construction area of 870 square meters. The main hall is five bays wide and three bays deep, with wall-supported rafters and a hip-and-gable roof.

The rear block of the Malu residence consists of a front courtyard, front hall, central courtyard, main hall, connecting corridor room, rear central courtyard, rear hall, and left wing room, with a construction area of 885 square meters. The front hall is five bays wide and two bays deep, the main hall is five bays wide and two bays deep, and the rear hall is five bays wide and one bay deep. All feature wall-supported rafters and hip-and-gable roofs.

The small ancestral shrine of the Pan residence includes a courtyard, front hall, central courtyard, connecting corridor, and main hall, covering a construction area of 242 square meters. The front hall is three bays wide and three bays deep, with a post-and-lintel beam structure and a flush gable roof.

The west house on Dazu Lane consists of a gatehouse, surrounding walls, central courtyard, front hall, another central courtyard, main hall, and connecting corridor room, with a construction area of 290 square meters. The front hall is three bays wide and two bays deep, with wall-supported rafters; the main hall is three bays wide and two bays deep, featuring a simple three-rafter beam structure.

In 2013, the Baijiao Pan Clan Residential Complex was designated as part of the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People's Government of Fujian Province.

Protected Area: An extension of 20 meters outward from the perimeter of the building complex.
