Pitching a tent by a tranquil lakeside, feeling the lake breeze carry fresh mountain air, lying on the grass and counting stars overhead, with a crackling bonfire nearby and the distant chirps of returning birds and crickets in the woods. This isn’t your dream grassland. Yesterday, reporters learned from Kaihui Town that as one of the major supporting projects introduced for the development of Bancang Characteristic Town, the Shuanghua Reservoir Camping Base in Kaihui will officially open next month, welcoming citizens to experience authentic rural slow living.
Besides Tent Camping, Stay Overnight at Farmhouses Too
Long Haibo, general manager of Hunan Jinzhiyuan Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd., told reporters that this camping base is the first in the entire Changsha area to focus primarily on camping.
The planned land area of the base is about 80 mu, including 60 mu of water surface and 15,000 square meters of turf. It will feature 50–100 camping spots and 30 wooden cabins. Once operational, it is expected to accommodate up to 100,000 visitors annually. Urban dwellers craving leisure and a taste of nature can enjoy the water and mountain views by the reservoir and embrace a carefree, natural lifestyle.
In addition to camping, citizens can also choose to stay at leisure clubs or rent rooms in local farmhouses. The investors have signed agreements with local villagers to reserve a guest room in their homes for tourists, offering an authentic countryside living experience.
Plans to Build a Horse Racing Track and Maze Garden
The base is divided into four major areas: wetland landscape zone, camping zone, wooden cabin zone, and leisure sports zone. It includes activities such as plateau camping, grass sledding, cycling, barbecuing, boating, and golf practice, providing a comprehensive recreational space for camping and self-driving enthusiasts.
A horse racing track covering 60 mu is also planned for the southeast side of the reservoir, where high-quality horses will be introduced. Citizens will be able to rent or adopt horses and gallop through the beautiful lakeside scenery. It is understood that there are two proposed designs for the center of the horse racing track. One is to build a botanical maze, a concept popular in Western countries in recent years, where trees and flowers create a physical maze for visitors to navigate and test their sense of direction. The other plan is to plant lavender, which blooms for up to seven months, allowing visitors to stroll through purple fields for over half a year.
