Taiji Peak

Taiji Peak is situated between Bangliao Mountain and Shiping Mountain in Nansheng Town, southeastern Pinghe County, at 117°26'15" east longitude and 24°15'00" north latitude. It faces Shiliu Mountain City in Zhangpu to the east, leans against Shiping Mountain along Yilu in Nansheng to the west, connects to Wangshi Mountain in Xinmei, Wuzhai to the south, and links with the Sanping Scenic Area of Bangliao Mountain to the north. It is 12 kilometers from Nansheng Town, 30 kilometers from Pinghe County, 77 kilometers from Zhangzhou, and 48 kilometers from Zhangpu. A simple 12-kilometer road has been constructed. The area features a climate that is a mix of inland and maritime influences, with an average temperature of 21°C, a maximum of 35°C, and a minimum of -2°C; annual rainfall ranges from 1700 to 2100 millimeters. The region boasts a rich variety of plant species, including trees, shrubs, bamboo, and grass, with vegetation coverage exceeding 65%. It has dense forests and diverse wildlife. The area consists of magmatic strata from the Yanshanian period, mostly composed of acidic and medium-acidic rocks, forming peculiar rock formations through rock bases, rock masses, and small rock outcrops, creating unique natural landscapes. The main peak, Taiji Peak, stands at an elevation of 982 meters. The scenic area includes twelve attractions: Bangliao Reservoir, Rock Pit, Golden Monkey’s Handprint, Chicken Cage Mountain, Red Granny Stone, Dog-Broken Peak, Waterhen Stone, Stone Bamboo Shoot Peak, Taiji Peak, Dingdi Lake Purple Bamboo Temple, and the site of the former Min-Yue Border Special Committee. Covering an area of 18 square kilometers, it was once the base of operations for the Min-Yue Border Special Committee and the Red Third Regiment. Taiji Peak Scenic Area serves both as a patriotic education base for youths and a great destination for sightseeing and leisure.

Nansheng Town: Nansheng Town is located in the southeastern part of Pinghe County, covering a total area of 143 square kilometers. It has 142,233 mu of mountainous land and 25,249 mu of arable land, and administers 11 administrative villages, 1 neighborhood committee, and 142 villager groups, with a total population of 28,000.

[Transportation] The town enjoys convenient transportation, situated along the provincial Niujiu Road. It neighbors Zhangpu County to the east, borders Wuzhai Township to the south, adjoins Guoqiang Township and Yunxiao County to the west, and connects to Bansai Town and Wenfeng Town to the north, located 19 kilometers from the county seat.
