Nansheng Kiln Site

The Nansheng Kiln Site is located in Nansheng Town and Wuzhai Township, Pinghe County, Fujian Province.

The kiln sites are mainly concentrated in Nansheng and Wuzhai towns. Since Wuzhai was originally part of Nansheng, the site is collectively referred to as the "Nansheng Kiln." The Nansheng Kiln's products are best known for their blue-and-white porcelain plates, but they also produced bowls, dishes, bottles, cups, incense burners, jars, and more. The decorations often feature aquatic plants, fish and algae, birds, beasts, flowers, and other motifs, with some pieces even inscribed with auspicious phrases.

During the 1960s cultural relics survey, ancient kiln sites were discovered in this area. Since then, the Fujian Provincial Museum and the Pinghe County Museum have conducted multiple follow-up investigations, identifying the following kiln sites: Huazailou, Tiankeng, and Ouliao in Nansheng Town; and Dongkou, Huzai Mountain, Houxiang Wan Yao Mountain, Tianzhongyang, Longzai Mountain, Dalong, Erlong, -po, Nei Yao, and Saozhoujin in Wuzhai Township. Collected porcelain samples include blue-and-white porcelain, white porcelain, celadon, glazed porcelain (soy sauce glaze, yellow glaze, blue glaze, etc.), and painted porcelain (wucai, sansancai, etc.).

In 2006, the Nansheng Kiln Site was listed in the sixth group of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level by the State Council as an ancient heritage site from the Ming and Qing dynasties.
