Worship the Siping Ancestral Master, view the construction of a prosperous and beautiful countryside, admire a riot of colorful flowers… Located in the northeast of Wenfeng Town, Pinghe County, Sanping Village borders Longhai to the east and Zhangpu to the south, serving as the eastern gateway to Pinghe County. Villagers grow economic crops such as Guanxi honey pomelo, Zhangzhou mandarin oranges, and bamboo. With a high forest coverage rate, the village boasts enchanting scenery.

Sanping Village is home to the renowned millennium-old Siping Temple (a national 4A-level scenic area). It is said to have been founded in the seventh year of the Xiantong era of the Tang Dynasty (866) by Zen Master Yang Yizhong. The temple’s architecture features artistic characteristics from the Tang and Song dynasties. Nearby the temple are eight scenic spots for visitors to enjoy: Turtle and Snake Peaks, Monk’s Pool, Tiger Run Spring, Immortal Pavilion, Minister Pavilion, Dragon Rui Waterfall, Mao’s Cave, and Tiger Forest. These are highly revered by overseas Chinese, their relatives, compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, as well as Buddhist disciples. The temple remains continuously fragrant with incense throughout the year, attracting a constant stream of visitors, especially during the Spring Festival when it becomes extremely crowded.

Exiting the Siping Scenic Area, hop on an electric cart to see the achievements of Sanping Village’s “prosperous and beautiful countryside” initiative. Along the clear Sanping Stream, you’ll find the village’s “three parallel developments”: a tourist souvenir shopping street, a pedestrian greenway, and a slow traffic lane. After getting off the cart, stroll along the riverside leisure landscape greenway where you’ll encounter elegant blooms and swaying bamboo, creating a poetic atmosphere. Over 18,000 acres of bamboo are planted here, along with 7,000 square meters of — as well as a large number of magnolia, orchid, and camellia flowers. For this reason, the village has specially established a garden for viewing field flowers. Additionally, the village has added a Waterside Park, featuring exquisitely designed modern sculptures and various inscriptions that promote kindness, offering visitors a unique experience and inspiration.

In front of and behind the houses in Sanping Village, you’ll find lush vegetable plots and green spaces everywhere. As it turns out, in order to build a beautiful countryside, the village underwent comprehensive renovation. After the makeover, every available space was turned green, with over 80% of the greenery consisting of precious and high-quality native tree species, achieving a 100% greening rate. This has created a richly layered green landscape that stays green all year round, with distinct seasonal changes. Regarding the village’s appearance, over 220 street-facing houses were given a unified facade renovation in a consistent style. Older houses were restored following the principle of “repairing the old as it was,” maintaining the classic Southern Fujian residential style of “black tiles, white walls, and red windows.” This has infused the quaint mountain village with vitality and is well worth a visit.

At the same time, during the spring outing season, Sanping Village prepares agritainment activities for visitors, such as bamboo shoot digging and making Qingming cakes. Amid the emerald bamboo forests, visitors can not only enjoy the captivating natural scenery but also grab a hoe and personally dig for bamboo shoots to experience the joys of rural life. They can even take the freshly dug bamboo shoots to a farmhouse to cook a “wood stove meal.”

In Sanping Village, urban visitors can fully embrace the role of a mountain villager, experiencing the freshness and simplicity of nature, as well as the leisurely lifestyle and joys of agricultural work.
