Huangtian Ancient Village
Surrounded by water on three sides and backed by Dalong Mountain, Huangtian Village is vividly described in the line, “Facing the mountain where a sharp literary peak rises, embracing the river with a wide jade-like flow.” The village preserves six earth buildings including Longjian Tower, Yongchun Tower, and Yanting Tower, as well as eleven ancestral halls such as Shangwei Ancestral Hall, Shanglao Ancestral Hall, Shangdun Ancestral Hall, and Jushun Ancestral Hall. It also features historic sites like the century-old Dunren Private School, the oldest village regulations such as the “Shangwei Covenant Prohibition Stele” and “Xialou Covenant Prohibition Stele,” the Bagua Well, the Ancient Dragon Tree King, the Land Temple of the Third-Rank Surveillance Commissioner, ancient alleys and drainage ditches from the Ming and Qing dynasties, inscribed steles, and calligraphy and paintings. During the Ming and Qing periods, the village produced three imperial examination graduates (Jinshi) and twenty-one successful candidates in the provincial examinations (Juren). Emperor Qianlong conferred upon it the title “Family of Literary and Martial Excellence.” The village also retains cultural landmarks tied to traditional festivals and beliefs, such as the Land Temple of the Third-Rank Surveillance Commissioner and the City God Temple. It is a culturally rich ancient village.
