Jiufeng Ancient Town

Jiufeng Ancient Town is the only national historical and cultural town in Zhangzhou, boasting a long history and rich cultural heritage. In the 13th year of the Zhengde reign during the Ming Dynasty (1518 AD), Wang Shouren established a county here, making it a convergence point of Chaoshan and Southern Fujian cultures. Known since ancient times as the “Land of Music and Song,” it has been abundant in folk activities such as music, dance, opera, calligraphy, and painting, which were both vibrant and widely practiced, producing generations of literati throughout history. Huang Daozhou, in his “Record of the Temple and Tomb of Wang Wencheng,” referred to the area as having “cultural relics and refined arts spread throughout the district,” and “its people immersed in poetry and books, their homes like those in Zou and Lu”—regions famed for scholarship. The ancient town has deep cultural roots, with historical relics such as the memorial stele of Yu Dayou, the former site of the Shangping Peasants’ Association, and cultural sites like the Weihui Temple, Dongshan Temple, and Longjian Tower, all steeped in the weight of history.

In addition to its countless scenic spots and historical sites, the surrounding area of the ancient town features rich natural landscapes, including the “Highest Peak in Southern Fujian”—Daqin Mountain, Sunset Glow at Xiling, and Autumn Moon over Shitan.

Jiufeng Ancient Town is also a renowned tea port, particularly famous for its Baiya Qilan tea, which enjoys great renown both at home and abroad. “Charming Jiu Le Ridge, where spring hills are half covered in tea.” Savoring a sip of its refreshing fragrance while immersed in emerald-green tea fields can make all noise and worries vanish.
