Seven Stars Earth Building Cluster

In Banzi Town, Pinghe County, the hometown of world-renowned cultural master Lin Yutang, elders often mention folk sayings passed down through generations such as “Beidou Town’s Bronze Pot” and “Seven Stars Accompanying the Moon.” During the planning of earth building preservation and development, locals were amazed to discover seven earth buildings arranged nearby: Huanxi Building, Binyang Building, Qingyang Building, Xunnan Building, Huangqian Building, Houcuo Building, and Wumei Building, forming a pattern resembling the Big Dipper. These buildings are scattered among vast expanses of pomelo orchards and banana groves. The Big Dipper Seven Stars Earth Building Cluster in Banzi derives its name from its layout—seven earth buildings constructed on both sides of Tongxi River. Spanning 80 years from the construction of Wumei Building to Huanxi Building, the final structure’s couplet even includes phrases such as “auspicious light of the Big Dipper” and “excellent aura of the southern mountain,” revealing the formation of the Seven Stars Earth Building Cluster.

Recently, attentive observers have found that the directional and positional relationship between the Lin Yutang Residence and the Seven Stars Earth Building Cluster aligns similarly with that of the North Star and the Big Dipper. These seven earth buildings and Lin Yutang’s former home form a line of points, creating a spectacular sight known as “Seven Stars Surrounding the North Star.”
