The Memorial Hall of Zhu De Leading the Nanchang Uprising Troops Back to Fujian is the first memorial hall dedicated to Zhu De in Fujian Province. The exhibition displays dozens of historical images, photographs, and artifacts, including a brass three-section flashlight gifted by Zhu De to Zhu Meizhou, a villager who hosted the troops at the time. It is also a second batch provincial-level cultural relics protection unit and a Party history education base.
In early October 1927, after the Nanchang Uprising, over 4,000 troops from the 25th Division of the 11th Army, the Training Regiment of the 9th Army, and local peasant soldiers from Dabu were commanded by Zhu De and others. Following a fierce battle against enemy forces at Sanhe Dam in Dabu, they made the strategic decision to “conceal and move north, then turn west and advance directly to southern Hunan.” On October 7, Zhu De led his troops to capture Pinghe County and met with leaders of the Pinghe County Communist Party, such as Zhu Jilei and Chen Caiqin, at the Zhonghu Ancestral Hall in Jiufeng Town (the former county seat of Pinghe), conveying the spirit of the Party’s August 7th Meeting. On October 8, the uprising troops camped and rested in Futang, receiving strong support from the people of Pinghe, especially those in Futang. Zhu’s eight major family branches in Nanshan mobilized the “Zhu Yibo Hectare” grain depot, organizing hundreds of locals to mill and pound over 300 stones of grain day and night to supply the troops (each soldier received 5–6 catties of rice), cutting grass for animal feed, slaughtering pigs and sheep to treat the troops, and treating some of the wounded. That day, Zhu De also met with You Jingxiu and You Zhicheng, leaders of the Xiufeng Township Peasant Association. After resting in Futang, the uprising troops entered Yongding, Longyan via Luxi, Pinghe, and finally advanced toward Jinggangshan, where they successfully joined forces with the worker-peasant armed forces led by Mao Zedong.
