Taxia Village is a cultural tourism attraction.

Taxia Village in Shuyang Town, Nanjing County, is the central hub for visiting the tulou (earthen buildings) of Zhangzhou. It is a beautiful village surrounded by flowing water and dotted with tulou structures. Most visitors stay here overnight and also take the opportunity to explore the village’s natural scenery.

Taxia Village is a Hakka village, with the entire community surnamed Zhang. In earlier years, many villagers migrated “down to Nanyang” (Southeast Asia), primarily to Thailand and Myanmar. After achieving success, they returned to their hometown to build roads and bridges, bringing honor to their families—hence, this small village boasts five uniquely designed bridges.

Strolling through Taxia Village is a great choice. Some call it the “Little Zhouzhuang” or a “Shangri-La” of southern Fujian. A small river winds slowly through the valley, with tulou houses standing in layers against the mountains and by the water. These earthen buildings range in age from several hundred to just a few decades and feature various architectural styles. Their earthen walls, black tiles, and red couplets glow with a dreamy hue in the slanting sunlight.

A combo ticket is available for three attractions: Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster, Yuchang Building, and Taxia Village, at 100 RMB per person.

Children between 1.1–1.4 meters tall receive half-price tickets; students receive half-price with valid ID.

Transportation

I. Getting to Tianluokeng Scenic Area:

1. Take a train to Nanjing Railway Station, then take the tourism shuttle bus just outside the station (departs approximately once every hour, 20 RMB per person, 1.5-hour ride); alternatively, go to Nanjing Bus Station and transfer to the tulou special line (20 RMB per person); or hire a private car (~40 RMB per person).

2. From Xiamen Hubin South Long-Distance Bus Station, take the 8:30 AM bus to Tianluokeng (55 RMB, ~3.5-hour ride).
