Nanjing Shengqing Building

Nanjing Shengqing Building is a cultural tourism attraction.

Shengqing Building is situated at the easternmost end of the Hekeng Tulou Cluster and was constructed during the Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1723–1735). This square-shaped tulou faces west, covering a site area of 2,310 square meters and a built-up area of 4,578 square meters. It has three stories (12 meters high), is 26.1 meters wide, and 24.5 meters deep, with 24 rooms per floor. The building has an inner corridor design. It has four staircases and one main gate. The base wall is 1 meter thick. Currently, it houses 12 households with 72 residents (see Figures 74, 75, 76 in 7.a-1, and Photos 65, 66 in 7.a-2). The building slopes from back (higher) to front (lower); behind the courtyard and connected to the rear hall is the ancestral hall called "Tinghuai," which is a two-story brick-and-wood structure with an upper and lower hall layout. The ancestral hall displays a Qing Dynasty Qianlong Guimou year-inscribed plaque reading “Virtue in the Village,” along with wooden-carved “lion-beam pillars” and floral murals of plum, orchid, and other plants on the walls.

Surrounding the building are 25 two-story earthen auxiliary houses that protect the tulou, forming a distinctive scene of “tulou enclosing auxiliary buildings and auxiliary buildings enclosing the tulou.”
