Meilin Cuiyu Pavilion

Meilin Cuiyu Pavilion is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

Meilin Cuiyu Pavilion is located in Meilin Village, Meilin Town, Nanjing County, and dates back to the Qing Dynasty.

Description: Constructed during the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1736–1795), it was a community school and private academy established by the Wei clan of Meilin. The building faces north and is situated to the south, covering a construction area of 320 square meters. It consists of a front hall, main hall, and wing rooms on the east and west sides. The front hall and main hall face each other, connected in the middle by a small pavilion. The front porch of the front hall is recessed inward, and the lintel above the main gate features a plaque made of plaster sculpture, with colorful murals on both sides depicting scenes of fishing, woodcutting, farming, and studying. The small pavilion has a two-span beam frame and a rolled awning roof. The main hall is five bays wide, with each bay directly supported by gable walls carrying the purlins. The front porch features bracket sets extending beyond the eaves, and the roof is of the hanging gable type. The central bay of the first and second sections of the main hall served as classrooms, while the side and end bays of the central hall functioned as living quarters for teachers. The side and end bays of the front hall, as well as the east and west wing rooms, were used as classrooms and kitchens. The architectural functions are clearly divided, reflecting the layout and characteristics of ancient community schools and private academies.

In 2018, Meilin Cuiyu Pavilion was designated as part of the ninth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People's Government of Fujian Province.
