Gao Lian Beishan Ancestral Hall

Gao Lian Beishan Ancestral Hall is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Fujian Province.

Gao Lian Beishan Ancestral Hall is located in Gao Lian Village, Chuanchang Town, Nanjing County, and dates back to the Qing Dynasty.

Description: Originally built in the mid-to-late Ming Dynasty and expanded during the Qing Dynasty, it faces south and consists of two courtyards front and back with two corridors, among other structures. A gate tower is situated to the southwest, with a pond (panchi) in front, enclosed by walls on three sides. The main hall is five bays wide and six bays deep, featuring a post-and-lintel beam frame and a flush gable roof. Associated cultural relics include the “Prohibition Stele of the Daoxian” from the 55th year of the Qianlong reign (1790) and stone flagpoles erected during the Guangxu era (1875–1908).

In 2013, Gao Lian Beishan Ancestral Hall was designated as part of the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites by the People’s Government of Fujian Province.

Protected area: The panchi extends 15 meters southward, 10 meters northward, and 10 meters eastward and westward respectively.

Gao Lian Village: Also known as Gaoshumen, Gao Lian Village is 11 kilometers from Chuanchang Town and is a settlement in the Lingding area of the town, at an altitude of 500 meters. It borders Xialing Village to the east and Longshui Village to the west, surrounded by dense primeval forests that act as windbreaks, forming a small basin in the center where the population is densely settled. The village administers seven villager groups, with a total population of 975 and 226 households. The terrain is mainly mountainous, with fertile soil. The average annual temperature is 20.6°C, and the average annual rainfall is about 1,750 millimeters. It is a beautiful place with lush mountains and clear waters.
