Wangu Ancient Site

Wangu Ancient Site is located on a western terrace of the Mengwa Flood Diversion Channel, about 2 kilometers east of Wanguji. The site faces the lake from the hillside and is close to the Meng River, standing 1–3 meters above the ground with an area of 2,500 square meters. In 1950, Liu Jinping, the principal of Wangu Primary School, took students fishing in the lake as part of a self-rescue production effort when he discovered the site, and collected pottery shards, clam shells, and stone tools. After investigation by local and county authorities, it was confirmed to be a cultural site from the late Neolithic Age. Stone tools collected from the surface include stone axes, adzes, arrowheads, knives, and spades, among which some are perforated. Pottery items include tripod leg fragments, dou vessel necks, ding vessel legs, net sinkers, and broken pottery lids. The pottery types consist of gray clay pottery, red clay pottery, and sandy clay pottery. The decorative patterns feature basketry patterns, corded patterns, thundercloud motifs, and added coil designs.
