Fuyang Museum
Fuyang Museum is a patriotic education base.
Fuyang Museum was established in 1958 and is one of the earlier prefecture-level comprehensive history museums in China. In 1963, Guo Moruo was invited to inscribe the museum name “Anhui Province Fuyang Prefecture Museum.” The original Fuyang Museum was located in the middle section of Renmin Road in Fuyang City, covering an area of over 30,000 square meters with an exhibition space of more than 4,000 square meters. In 1988, with joint investment from the State Planning Commission, the National Cultural Heritage Administration, the Provincial Department of Culture, and the Fuyang local government, a new museum was constructed at Qinghe Middle Road in the city. It covers an area of 10,000 square meters, with the main building having a construction area of 3,050 square meters and an exhibition space of 1,700 square meters. The museum houses nine exhibition halls, with a partial three-story structure in the middle, and features a symmetrical axial layout in a traditional Chinese architectural style. Since its establishment, Fuyang Museum has hosted nearly 100 large-scale exhibitions, including the “Fuyang Civilization History Exhibition,” “Fuyang’s Achievements in Reform and Opening-Up Over Twenty Years Exhibition,” “Fuyang’s Fifty-Year Achievements Exhibition,” “Fuyang Cultural Relics Fine Exhibition,” “Exhibition of Cultural Relics Unearthed from the Western Han Dynasty Ruyin Marquis Tomb at Shuanggudui in Fuyang,” and “Museum Bronze Ware Fine Exhibition.” Among them, the “Fuyang Cultural Relics Fine Exhibition” includes sections such as the “Fine Ceramics Hall,” “Exhibition of Cultural Relics Unearthed from the Western Han Dynasty Ruyin Marquis Tomb,” “Exhibition of Cultural Relics Unearthed from the Nülangtai Tomb Cluster,” and “Ming and Qing Calligraphy and Painting Hall.” In 1996, it was awarded the title of “Anhui Province Excellent Exhibition.” In 2009, two additional thematic exhibition halls were added: the “Fine Bronze Mirrors Through the Dynasties Hall” and the “Jade Artifacts Hall.” Fuyang Museum boasts an outstanding collection of cultural relics, with a current inventory of 20,097 items, including 47 national first-grade relics, 322 second-grade relics, 1,879 third-grade relics, and 13 nationally designated precious ancient books published by the State Council. The collections span over ten categories, such as bronzeware, pottery, porcelain, jade artifacts, stoneware, calligraphy and paintings, and paleontological fossils. Notable items include the Shang Dynasty Dragon-Tiger Bronze Zun, the Warring States Chu “Ying Dafu” Bronze Measuring Tool, the Fuyang Han Bamboo Slips, the early Han Dynasty Shipan (diviner's board), the Eastern Han Bronze Pixiu (a mythical creature), and the Xinmang Dynasty Bronze Mirror inscribed with “Jingtian” (well-field system)—all of which are rare artifacts of high historical, artistic, and scientific value. Fuyang Museum began offering free admission to the public in March 2008. Since then, it has received an average annual attendance of over 100,000 visitors and has played an important role in patriotic education.
