Anhui Provincial Archives

The Anhui Provincial Archives is a patriotic education base.

The Anhui Provincial Archives was established in 1959 and is situated on the northern side of the picturesque Baohe Scenic Area within the Huancheng Park. It functions as a preservation base and utilization center for the archives of provincial-level institutions and is classified as a National First-Class Archives. The archives currently hold over 1.2 million volumes (or sets) of records and documents, which are divided into five sections: archives from the Ming and Qing dynasties and earlier, Republican-era archives, revolutionary history archives, post-establishment-of-the-People’s-Republic archives, and related materials. These archival materials, with their long history and rich content, authentically reflect major historical events and important figures in Anhui’s history. They hold significant historical value and serve as vital informational resources for supporting the province’s economic, political, cultural, and social development. Moreover, they are vivid and abundant educational materials for promoting patriotism, revolutionary traditions, and basic knowledge about the province.

In recent years, relying on its extensive collection of archival materials and using archival exhibitions as the main medium, the Provincial Archives has actively developed its archival information resources and enhanced its public service capabilities for society and the general public. It has successively organized exhibitions such as the “Anhui Provincial Archives Treasures Exhibition,” “Photo Exhibition Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the War of Resistance Against Japan,” “Photo Exhibition Commemorating 30 Years of Rural Reform and Opening-up in Anhui,” “Archives Exhibition Celebrating 60 Years of New China’s Founding and Anhui’s Development Achievements,” “Exhibition of Photos on Anhui’s War of Resistance Against Japan,” “Archives and Photo Exhibition of Wang Buzhen, the First Secretary of the CPC Anhui Provincial Committee,” and “The 1911 Revolution in Anhui.” The archives have also launched activities such as “Unveiling Red Archives” and “The Drama of the Yangtze River Crossing.”

In April 2012, the Anhui Provincial Archives Exhibition Hall, developed by the Provincial Archives, was officially opened to the public free of charge. The Exhibition Hall consists of five sections: the Introductory Hall, the Ming Dynasty and Earlier Archives Exhibition Room, the Qing Dynasty Archives Exhibition Room, the Republican-Era Archives Exhibition Room, and the Post-Establishment-of-the-People’s-Republic Archives Exhibition Room. It employs modern technological methods such as sound, light, electricity, and multimedia, and utilizes various display formats including original archives, reproductions, physical exhibits, sculptures, specimens, audiovisual materials, and multimedia presentations. The hall centrally showcases over 200 carefully selected archival treasures preserved by archives at all levels across the province, vividly presenting to the public the development journey of Anhui since the establishment of the province, as well as major events and important figures. The 3D cinema in the hall screens “Anhui,” the first domestic 3D archival documentary film planned and produced by the Provincial Archives Bureau. This film condenses the essence of Anhui’s history, allowing audiences to engage with the archives, experience history, explore culture, and envision the future in an enjoyable way, thereby building a bridge through time and space.
